Cancer Talk Week 2014 – spread the support
Yesterday was the official start of Macmillan’s Cancer Talk Week 2014 and we want to help spread the support!
The aim of this annual event is to raise awareness of cancer and to spread the word of all the wonderful work that cancer charities do around the world. Whether that be your own personal mission to raise money this year or your local support group needing some extra word of mouth advertising.
Workplaces should use this week as an opportunity to shout loud and proud about any fundraising or awareness work your employees (or even relatives of employees!) are taking part in and advertise it. Advertise it round the office, on your intranet, your monthly newsletter or even on any of Honeydew Health’s social media pages so we can shout loud and proud for you, wherever suits.
This alone is a good enough reason to support Cancer Talk Week 2014 but there is something else we can all do at any time.
The other aim of this week to support each other. The whole country should be united in their own personal battles against cancer within their families and just talk to each other. Whilst this may be tricky to do in your work place, it is important to let your employees know that there is always someone out there to listen. Macmillan’s Cancer Talk Week 2014 page has plenty of great information on help and advice lines that should be advertised around any workplace. In addition to this, advertising your own Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) can also be highly beneficial in supporting your employees. This is especially important during events such as Cancer Talk Week 2014 when cancer is in the forefront of people’s minds.
You can even work this into any wellbeing initiative and ask employees to join in some charity work as a group or even a special company specific event. A charitable mind is a happy mind!
We at Honeydew Health would love to start Cancer Talk Week 2014 by asking all our readers to share their stories for what they will be doing to make a difference this week or even for the rest of the year. Send us a tweet, send us a picture on Facebook, write us a little story on Linkedin or even send us a blog to share. We want to help spread the support!
