From Rio to Wimbledon
Now that the World Cup is over (or so it will feel for most England fans), as we, sadly, correctly predicted on our blog a couple of weeks ago, the impact of the World Cup on absence turned out to be negligible due to the early exit of our boys in white. Even though there are still almost half of the games to play, the daily bombardment of 3 and 4 games is coming to an end and the matches will start to get spaced out a bit. Sad for some, but a relief for those of us who just don’t have the ability to take time off and watch all of the footy on offer. Naturally, there will still be quite a few people who will continue to follow the football and management of absence can therefore still end up being an issue, but who are we going to support now? Suggestions on the back of a postcard please…
For sports fans (and now the rest of the country can get in on the act as well), our attention inevitably turns to Wimbledon and, specifically, Andy Murray’s title defence. With the great weather we’ve been having there is a risk of heightened absence levels with people skiving off to enjoy bubbly and strawberries, but there are also still some opportunities for employers and employees to engage in some great team-building exercises. If Andy makes it far into the tournament you could consider showing his quarterfinal and semi-final (fingers crossed) matches on a big screen and turn the office into a little slice of SW19 after work for colleagues to mingle and enjoy the tennis and the banter. If you do end up doing the full All England Club re-decoration of the office, please do send us some pics to post on the blog!
Here at Honeydew Health, we’re crossing our fingers that Andy does go deep in the tournament, and if he ends up being successful and defends his title to win it for the second time, we’re sure that most employers will see increased productivity from their staff (just maybe not on Monday the 7th of July – the day following the final). Happy viewing and do save some champers and strawberries for us!
